The importance of hydraulics spreads across all areas of engineering. For every area of engineering, there is always a need for hydraulics. When compared with other methods of operations, the benefits and advantages attached to it are bigger and better.
For instance, without adding much stress to your workload, there is a lot you can achieve with hydraulics. The ease of operation and control it provides is considered as its major advantage. The ease of operation and control of the process has brought about a reduction in manual workload.
When you look at hydraulic machinery, the fluids are circulated and transferred to several parts or components. For instance, motors and cylinders are pressurized in line with the nominated resistance.
With the aid of the control valves, the fluid is directly or automatically controlled. In the end, the controlled fluid is then distributed or transferred through hoses and tubes.
Modern hydraulic hose typically consists of at least three parts: an inner tube that carries the fluid, a reinforcement layer, and a protective outer layer.
The inner tube must have some flexibility and needs to be compatible with the type of fluid it will carry. Commonly used compounds include synthetic rubber, thermoplastics, and PTFE, sometimes called Teflon. The reinforcement layer consists of one or more sheaths of braided wire, spiral-wound wire, or textile yarn. The outer layer is often weather-, oil-, or abrasion-resistant, depending upon the type of environment the hose is designed for.
Not surprisingly, hydraulic hoses have a finite life. Proper sizing and use of the correct type of hose will certainly extend the life of a hose assembly, but there are many different factors that affect a hose’s lifespan.
All damaged components theoretically can be repaired but in certain cases which they are beyond repairs and may not provide the full and desired function like the original we can offer for new and/or reconditioned.
In our premises, where we use ultra-modern machinery, we can undertake such repairs under qualified technicians with wide experience and strong know-how !
Ifaistus is an engineering company that was established in 1980, with a successful presence in the Shipping and Industrial field. With the experience gathered over the years, this company has a clear knowledge and understanding of all safety regulations.
Over the last 40 years, we have stayed true to all vital safety regulations associated with the shipping industry. These safety regulations are imposed from time to time, hence we know how important they are to the owners and operators, and the necessity of adhering to these regulations.
There are regulations attached to the replacement ofhoses. As discussed earlier, one of the vital regulations owners and operators in the shipping industry must adhere to, is CO2 hoses replacement. The replacement of these hoses must conform with IMO regulation MSC.1/Circ.1318 GUIDELINES FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTIONS OF FIXED CARBON DIOXIDE FIRE-EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS under 6.1.2 states.
This regulation clearly states that “Flexible hoses should be replaced at the intervals recommended by the manufacturer and not exceeding every 10 years”.
In terms of strength, depending on the quality of the CO2 hoses and their fittings they are generally very strong. However, they can degrade. Once the CO2 hoses degrade, the result can be extremely serious and very difficult to control. A leak in a hose can lead to fatal results. Thus, there is a need to carry out necessary checks on the hose from time to time.
To avoid any form of fatal accidents, it is important to conduct hose testing for hydraulic fluid transfer systems. For effective hose testing, there are several tests to be conducted. There are tests to be carried out on the product that passes through the hose, and there are tests to be carried out on the materials used for the construction of the hose.
For anything related to the health and safety of human lives, we don’t take it for granted. We have a sense of urgency, and as well sensitive to anything that human lives depend on. To this effect, we make use of high quality and certified hoses SAE 100R7, MSHA STANDARD AND LLOYD’S REGISTER TYPE APPROVED
